Hello my lovelies! Today let's talk about about K-drama. And my recommendation for today is this absolute gem released in December 2023: The Death’s Game. For those of you who are not familiar with the format k-drama, keep in mind that a series consists of 8 to 16 episodes, each are about one hour long (!!!) crazy, I know ! SOOO, to save you some time, here's my take on this series and a few reasons why you should watch it. Plot twist -> this scenario is deadly (pun intended 
) ! Let's go !
Synopsis
Trigger warning : self-h*rm, violences (series rated 16+). Please consider your own sensibilities before diving into it.
What is it about? The main character, Choi Yijae (Seo In-Guk) is a 31-year-old Korean man for whom nothing is going right. For the past five years, he’s been going from one job interview to the next without ever landing a job, his girlfriend left him, and he subsequently lost all his savings in a bad stock market investment. Facing prolonged failure in an ultra-competitive and highly judgmental society, he decides to end it all. Following that The Reaper (Death), furious at his decision, decides to punish him. He will be reincarnated into the body of someone facing imminent death and will have to survive. Trailer below.
Why you should watch The Death's Game
From webcomic to TV screen
This Korean series is an adaptation of the webcomic of the same name, written by Lee Won-Sik and illustrated by Ggulchan: Here's the Weebton link for The Death's Game. It consists of 8 episodes, all well thought out.You find yourself immersed in the story almost immediately, and before you know it, time just flies by. A superb plot featuring fight and action scenes, quieter and more emotional moments, as well as funny moments (That baby in the restaurant really made me laugh!). Anyway, this combo is absolutely perfect in my opinion! Episode 4, the 7th reincarnation, comes along like a magical interlude, giving us a chance to catch our breath before plunging back into chaos (lol) => you're going to love it!

And since a good script can only be brought to life by talented actors, we are graced with the best! The actors convey every possible emotion and perfectly bring their characters’ stories to life. The cast includes Go Youn-Jung (Alchemy of Souls) she portrays Yijae's girlfriend, Lee Jae-Wook (Alchemy of Souls) as a boxer, Lee Do-Hyun (The Good Bad Mother, The Glory) as a model/actor, Kim Ji-Hoon (Flower of Evil, Love to Hate You) a business man and even Oh Jung-Se (It’s ok to not be ok, Mr Plankton) as a police officer. In short, all my favorites are here!

Are you allowed to fail in society ?
This series offers a glimpse into South Korean society, extremely competitive (with many young people vying for very few job openings) and ruthless. One difference between the webcomic and the K-drama is that the judgment is much more palpable in the webcomic version. Every person Yijae meets up with has something to say: « What's up with you? You're not doing anything with your life—aren't you ashamed? You should behave as so-and-so ! People your age do this or that. » : the situation becomes quickly oppressive. We witness Yijae who must not only face his own struggles, but also the constant criticism.
Is society ready to show more leniency toward people who are considered “non-conforming” to the established norm? In this case scenario, the path of getting a job, getting married, and having children all before age 30? Do those around them realize the impact that negative comments or actions can have on the mental health of someone who is already vulnerable? Adding a layer of context here South Korea has one of the highest su*cide rates in the world (a sad record).
Money, Power, and Morality
The other central theme of this drama is money and power. With each reincarnation, the characters are faced with Sophie's choice: money vs fame, money vs love, money vs. freedom, money vs. self-esteem? This series makes us wonder: How far are we willing to go for money? Does morality have a price?
I found this aspect of the series really interesting, and it creates real tension in every episode. At our level, we need to take a step back and ask ourselves what our own red lines are. Because once we’re faced with the dilemma, it will be difficult to back down. As they say, all that glitters is not gold. Food for thoughts !

Definitely a 10/10! I highly recommend you for all the reasons listed above 🙂
P.S: I am also quite sensitive, and to be honest, it’s not like it’s a horror series or anything—it’s fine. Just a trigger warning for episode 5 ^_^ Brace yourselves! lol But the rest is okay.
